Using the Duplicate Check function
A guide to enabling duplicate checks across multiple fields on one labelEnabling a duplicate check on a label is a simple 4 step process:
- Define the product reference name and value
- Define the field name
- Enable product duplicate checkbox
- Select the desired product reference
To run duplicate checks against existing labels or batches, the product reference name, product reference value and the field name must be matched.
When would I want to use the Duplicate check
Case study scenario: a customer has a batch with a product reference of "Product ID = Car" and a "Lot Number" of 12345.
This customer is inspecting a barcode field called "BARCODE".
They also have a third product reference of "Part Name" with value "Wheel".
If the customer wants to check for duplicates for the field "BARCODE", under the duplicate check section they can use the product reference they want to check against selected from the dropdown menu:
Implementing Duplicate check allows check for two different scenarios:
- If "Lot Number" is selected, they could check the duplicate against a specific lot number - not all the lots saved already in the database. In this scenario, the user will do duplicate check against Lot Number = 12345. For the next batch run, even if the batch name changes, when the user uses the same Lot Number = 12345, they will do duplicate checks.
- If the "Part Name" is selected, the system will perform duplicate checks against all lot numbers having the same Part Name = Wheel in this case.
It allows different types of duplicate checks for a more complex product. Moreover, even if the batch name changes and the label template changes, the same product reference name and valoerue can be used for the desired inspection field to perform a duplicate check.
This would apply in the scenario where the customer is running a certain label template for a few months, then they change the design slightly but they still want to run duplicate checks. They will set up a product reference to link to the previous template, as in the case above. They could use the "Product ID" field which could be kept as unique because it is the same product but with two different label template variances.
