Perceptor no longer works or is inaccessible after a Windows update

Your IT department may have security policies in place to automatically install the latest Windows on all devices in the organisation, especially for internet enabled devices, for security purposes to address vulnerabilities, install new features and to improve performance.

These Windows updates are outside of the scope of the Perceptor IoT software and our support service.

Some Windows updates also install additional packages and user security policies that can affect your Perceptor IoT device’s ability to communicate with the Perceptor Licencing server. Without access to your organisation’s licence information – including authorized users, inspection features, available consumption units – Perceptor IoT will not work.

Action to take

Immediately after a Windows update has finished on the IoT device it is important to check that Perceptor IoT is working as expected.

You will see on screen notifications that Windows updates and policies have been applied and then Perceptor may ask for a new licence key.

We have seen instances where, following a Windows update and after a new licence is entered, Perceptor displays a 'Forbidden' message which indicates the user’s privileges have been limited on the IoT device. Alternatively, changes may have been made which relate to the .NET framework.

If you experience any issues accessing and using Perceptor IoT after a Windows update, you should contact your IT team for assistance as these changes have been made to your organisation’s infrastructure and not to the Perceptor software.
