Lifetime: Perceptor Software Maintenance Annual Support
Lifetime: Perceptor Software Maintenance Annual Support explainedNB The Perceptor Software Maintenance Annual Support (SMAS) is to be purchased with the system at the beginning of the Perceptor IoT contract. Should the end user decide not to purchase the SMAS at that time but wishes to at a later date, there is an 8 week Support Implementation period during which time any support requests will be quoted for on a case by case basis. In addition, please note that no software upgrades will be provided until 3 months has elapsed from the time of implementing a SMAS post-contract.
Introduction
Perceptor is a production critical software application that users depend on for their accurate global label printing. Perceptor ensures that identification labels meet print quality and compliance requirements; because of its operational dependence, it needs to be available 24*7. Access to the application needs to be controlled and data transmitted within the application needs to be transmitted securely.
In order to meet the demands of a truly scalable global solution and to ensure this is achieved as securely as possible, the Perceptor application has been deployed using Microsoft’s latest .NET 7 technology.
Perceptor software application is a desktop application that communicates in real-time with SQL server via Data API. Data is stored in a SQL database. On user login to the application, the licence is validated via an API to Perceptor’s licence server located in the cloud.
Perceptor has been designed and developed to allow customers to choose whether they wish to run the application as a Subscription on Perceptor-Cloud.com (on Azure) or as a perpetual Lifetime OnPremise solution on their own server.
Subscription benefits
Subscription customers benefit from all the security layers that have been designed into the product, including:
- Sentinel threat monitoring from high level tenancy down to device level
- Automatic data back up
- Failover servers to ensure continuity of service
Lifetime OnPremise customers elect to run the application using their own server hardware and IT network infrastructure.
Lifetime OnPremise customer responsibilities
Lifetime OnPremise customers do not have the on-going subscription costs but they have the sole responsibility for the following:
- Provision and maintenance of their own server on which the Perceptor application is running and the data is stored
- Ensuring health checks are regularly carried to ensure that the server resources (disk storage, CPU, RAM) are sufficient to run Perceptor efficiently
- Maintenance of a data backup policy
- Maintenance of adequate power and network redundancy
- Ensuring adequate failover provision and policies are in place
- Ensure the latest Operating System and security updates have been applied
- Firewalls and site to site VPNs are configured securely
- Restricting access to the server and data to limit their exposure and to safeguard their data
Importantly it is the sole responsibility of Lifetime OnPremise customers to ensure the SQL server is always available and there is adequate power, network redundancy and failover policies in place in the event of disruption.
For both environments, Perceptor authenticates users via Azure Active Directory [AAD] and connects multiple systems around the world to one central SQL database. Availability of AAD, the server and Perceptor SQL database is integral to the running of the Perceptor application.
On-going development program
Perceptor is committed to the continual development and provision of a secure and reliable product for both Subscription and Lifetime OnPremise customers. A continuous program of development will add features and enhancements, monitor software dependencies, vulnerabilities and adopt latest user verification and encryption techniques.
Given the production critical nature of the product it is essential our customers have access to the latest releases and security patches. As a Lifetime OnPremise customer paying for the Software Maintenance Annual Support you benefit from:
- Regular updates, guidance and latest recommendations for safely deploying Perceptor
- Software dependencies and vulnerability updates
- Unlimited access to technical support
- Access to project resource for managing and implementing an upgrade path
- Free upgrades to the latest release*
* Upgrade is limited to the same feature set functionality. New features and enhancements are chargeable.
NB Perceptor offers no priority access to technical support for Lifetime OnPremise customers who do not purchase the Software Maintenance Annual Support. Should support be needed for such a customer then a quote will be issued at the time of request and, subject to that quote being accepted, resource will be made available as and when the workload and resource availability allows.
